   About "Stone of Tears"

I have just finished reading the book of "Stone of Tears". At first, the reason I choosed to read this book was only because of its title. I thought "Stone of Tears" sounded very sensitive and romantic. Before reading "Stone of Tears", I didn’t read any introduction about this book, but I know it’s a fiction, because I got the book from where it labeled with fiction.

I have thought it must be a beautiful and very sad story at the thought of the title of "Stone of Tears". Finally I find out it is a nice and sad story, though it’s not like what I have thought of.

Summarily, this book is about the bright world and the death world. The Keeper, the Lord of the death world, wanted to swallow all the lives in the bright world. So a hero appeared, his name was Richard, the Seeker. The whole story is telling us of the adventure of Richard’s saving the bright world and his love with Kahlan who was the Mother Confessor. Richard’s adventure was very tough yet full of unexpected episodes, his love with Kahlan was celestial, exhilarating. After a lot of suffering and torture, their love bloomed with perfect coalescence. I prefer the part about their love to the adventure. I admire the magical power that Richard and Kahlan had, but I more likely envy their perfect love, I guess, everyone who reads this novel will feel the same like me. Pure love is the very thing that most people most long for, especially, the love maturing with time in which the couple struggle for the same bright goal.

What most impress me is the two the Wizard’s Rule. The Wizard’s First Rule is: People will believe everything, that is to say, people can be made to believe any lie, either because they want it to be true, or are afraid to it might be. The Wizard’s Second Rule is: The greatest harm can be resulted from the best intentions. It sounds paradox. Kindeness and good intentions can be insidious path to destruction. Sometimes doing what seems right is wrong, and can cause harm.

The two Wizard’s Rule are very interesting. In fact, those two rules are not only answer to Wizard, I think, but also meet common people. Those two rules seem very simple and easy to understand. But it’s really difficult to go without violating them. For the first rule, there is a good example: rumor always spread fast. Once a rumor bring up, most people want it to be true, especially for those who spread the rumor, therefore, they keep gossiping whenever they meet whoever they can push it out. For the second rule, though it is very obscure, but it’s also easy understandable. Here is a example: Most parents arrange room neatly, so that there is no block that can tumble their little children. Yes, such action is out of good intention. But after their children are accustomed to it, once they come to the uneven roads, their carelessness formed from the good condition set by their parents can cause harm. In such two cases, it’s very easy to know whether we violate the rules or not. But sometimes, it needs knowledge, wisdom and fore thought to prevent us from violating the two rules.

As a father, I am often confused with those two rules how to handle some issues of educating my daughter. Of course, all of my intentions are good, but It’s not easy to decide which good intention do really good to my daughter, which bad to her. I am not Richard who was burden with the task to save the world, so I needn’t to be too tense about the two rules. However, for a country, A good leader with good intention and wisdom is far from enough to be qualified to build a great nation, according The Wizard’s Second Rule, we need a sound political system to keep leaders from violating the second rule. What a shame, we have neither good political system nor good leaders.
