Wanderer in the Darkness
–The speech version of “Bare Bodkin in the Erebus”
Morning, my fair friends and teachers:
I’m very glad to stand here to share my point of view, on a person that has affected me most.
A person can affect us not only on certain visible affairs, but also on the spirits and the way we think!
“To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them…”
This is what we heard from William Shakespeare’s work, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. It exactly shows my state of mind.
See, that’s who affected me most, on my meditation, on my thoughts, because I’m another Hamlet in the modern world. And there are Hamlets lying in us too. We all share the same way of thought with him.
While he uttered his world-weariness, we are shouting out the criticism on the Chinese education!
The whole world’s a stage, and the Internet merely a player. It acts out the facts we face:
The United Nation gave the children around the world a question: what’s your own idea towards the hunger problems in other countries?
The American kids don’t know what “other counties” means, while the European ones don’t know what “hunger” implies; the African kids don’t know what “problems” refer to, while the Asian ones don’t know what “your own idea” is!
Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?
That is it: the Chinese education is just a numerical issue – it only focuses on how high our marks are, or if our ideas meet the teachers’ appetites, instead of what we see, or how we apply our knowledge.
We can’t deny that the Ministry of Education surely have done something, and carried out the policy for the Education of Constitution.
But how did it work?
Without any relieve, it only offered more excuses for the schools to set extra classes in the name of it.
This policy has been sicklied o’er with the pale cast of utterance!
Therefore, what we see is still that everyone around us is working hard on the exercises and papers, while we’re swimming around the “funny ideas”. We’re never the tops only because we’re never hardworking and never got the “proper numbers”!
However, we’re in senior grades now, the most important exam which will change our life is waiting in the gateway – should we devote ourselves into the gulf of exercises, seeing our ego go away, or keep being ourselves?
Which shall do us good?
Just as Hamlet was considering killing himself, we’re wondering whether to have our ego killed, as conditioned to the situation.
But if we yield to the error schooling like others, then followers yield as we do, in this way, last forever, and there’ll be no improvement any more.
Is it what we want? – Of course not!
We don’t want our kids, our kids’ kids, and all the descendants continue the sucking circuit!
(A moment’s silence)
Well, wait, wait, what did we say? The descendants? Yeah, that’s it, the descendants!
We could leave our ego behind, toil and moil for some years, approach the Ministry of Education, finally, back with the Renaissance of education and benefit the future generation!
Yes, that’s a good and the only best way! That’s exactly what we want, the consummation devoutly to be wish’d!
For the future generation’s sake, aren’t we pleased to sacrifice ourselves and surrender to the education in the wrong lane?
So, let’s go beneath “the Old One”, saying, take us if they shall be saved!
Soft you now!
The fair Psyche! Deity, in your orisons
Be all my sins remember’d!
